Bandages are gauze strips used to wrap wounds or affected areas. They are common medical supplies and come in many different types and methods. The appropriate type and method must be chosen based on the location of the injury.
Bandaging Techniques
1. The injured person should be in an appropriate position.
2. The affected limb should be placed in a suitable position to ensure the patient's comfort and reduce pain during bandaging.
3. The affected limb must be bandaged in a functional position.
4. The person bandaging should usually stand in front of the patient to observe their facial expressions.
5. Generally, bandaging should proceed from the inside out and from the distal end towards the trunk. Two loops should be made at the beginning of bandaging to secure it.
6. Hold the bandage roll firmly to prevent it from slipping. The bandage roll should be flat against the bandaged area.
7. Apply even pressure around the bandage, avoiding both too light pressure (too light to prevent slippage) and too tight pressure (to avoid circulatory obstruction).
8. Except for patients with acute bleeding, open wounds, or fractures, the affected area must be clean and dry before bandaging.
9. Rings, gold chains, bracelets, watches, and necklaces should be removed before bandaging.
